Stephen is a biomedical engineer, businessman, and avid researcher.  Currently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of CM Prosthetics, Inc., he directs a dental laboratory focused on the rehabilitation of the edentulous patient, utilizing state-of-the-art CAD/CAM technology.


CM Prosthetics, founded by Stephen in 2010, has consistently expanded in size and capabilities, offering
dental practitioners the most advanced digital technology possible.  The most recent and still somewhat exclusive product is the Accelerset Prosthesis, a fully automated implant-supported prosthesis that is engineered using the digital denture workflow. It promises to be a crowning achievement in implant prosthodontics.


As Director of Research for the Pi Dental Center (Fort Washington, PA) since 2002, Stephen Balshi has been published in numerous refereed journals and has lectured at both national and international meetings.  He is fluent in the immediate function of dental implants, computer guided implant surgery, and the many diverse solutions for edentulous patients which CM Prosthetics is able to provide.  He has made radio and television appearances discussing how digital dentistry has improved patient care.

Stephen is the Chairperson of the Dental Technician Alliance for the American College of Prosthodontists and a Key Opinion Leader for both Global Dental Science and Dentsply Sirona.  He is a beta tester for several dental software packages, including DTX Studio from Nobel Biocare.  He also holds adjunct professor status at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and Nova Southeastern University School of Dentistry.  He is an inventor and co-author of an awarded patent with several other patent applications pending in the field of dental implant rehabilitation.

In November 2019, Stephen received the Dental Technician Leadership Award from the American College of Prosthodontists for outstanding service to the dental laboratory profession and the prosthodontic community.

Stephen received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.  He was awarded a Master’s Degree at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA with a published thesis on the stability of Brånemark implants and immediate function.   

At Catholic University, Stephen excelled as a leader in tennis and was named Rookie of the Year as a Freshman and Most Valuable Player as a Sophomore, Junior and Senior.  He was the captain of the tennis team for the final 3 years.  He was awarded the Harris Cup trophy in his Senior season, the highest honor given at the school for a male student athlete.

  

Stephen lives with his wife, Caitlin, and three children, Samantha, Peyton, and Nicholas, in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
